God’s Cute Surprises, Part 2

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are my ways like your ways” says the Lord.

Yesterday my wife called on the way home from the doctor. She had been sick for five days and finally went to see someone. They sent her to get a scan, suspicious that she had appendicitis. Well, she did, and upon arrival at the hospital they discovered that her appendix had actually burst but somehow had encapsulated itself so as not to spread to the entire body (God’s little miracles!).

Through the heroic and patient efforts of especially my daughter, Noelle, her husband, Kolbe, and my sister, Amy, I was able to get my return flight changed to today, cutting my trip short by almost exactly two weeks.

Needless to say I didn’t sleep well last night–combined concern for Jill, phone calls and texts until almost 4 am my time, and the sad, sad thought of saying goodbye to the kids in Kibeho and all of the incredibly gracious people here who have welcomed me. I have learned so much in these five weeks and have absolutely loved my time here. It is truly a special country, with so many beautiful people and of course the palpable presence of Our Lady here in Kibeho.

This will likely be my last blog post. Thank you to the troopers out there who have been reading and praying for me along the way. I am very grateful. It is my hope that my stories have in some way touched your life as well. Prayers for my wife, Jill, would also be appreciated. I have every confidence that she will be okay, but she might be uncomfortable for a little while.

God bless the abana of Kibeho. God bless the many good people here who are serving these little ones. God bless us all.
